Editorial Standard
Editorial Policy
MediaCircular is an independent business, technology and emerging-economy media and intelligence platform. This policy explains the standards we hold ourselves to, and how readers can hold us to them.
01 Editorial standards
Our aim is to help readers understand what is changing, who is building it and where the next opportunities are emerging. Four principles guide everything we publish.
- Originality. We prioritize original reporting, interviews, research and analysis.
- Attribution. We identify sources and distinguish reporting from commentary.
- Transparency. Commercial relationships and sponsored content are clearly identified.
- Corrections. When we get something wrong, we correct it.
02 Sourcing and attribution
We identify the sources of our reporting wherever we can, and credit original reporting, research and data that we rely on. Where a source is not named, we say so and keep the identity confidential.
We treat claims from companies, executives and interested parties as claims, and say who is making them.
03 Reporting and commentary
News reporting, analysis, explainers, opinion and sponsored content are different things. We label them so that readers can tell which is which, and we keep opinion separate from reporting.
04 Corrections
If we publish something inaccurate, we will correct it and say so. Our process for reporting and handling errors is set out on the Corrections page.
05 Conflicts of interest
People who write for MediaCircular are expected to disclose any financial or personal interest that could reasonably affect their coverage of a company, person or topic. Where a conflict exists, the contributor does not report on the subject, or we disclose the interest to readers.
06 Sponsored content
Sponsored content is created for or with a commercial partner. It is always labelled as sponsored, it is kept distinct from our editorial reporting, and it does not influence what we report.
07 Advertising separation
Advertisers, sponsors and partners do not decide what we report or how we report it, and they do not review or approve our reporting before publication. Commercial relationships are handled separately from the newsroom.
08 Contributor policy
Contributors are expected to submit original work, follow these standards, attribute their sources and disclose any affiliation relevant to their subject. We may edit, decline or remove contributions that do not meet this policy.
